Kathleen is a graduate of Temple University (Bachelor of Science in Education) and West Chester University (Master of Science in Education). She is a dedicated teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. With over 14 years of service, Kathleen has gone on to become a certified Reading Specialist and National Board Certified Teacher in Reading: Language Arts (Early/Middle Years). Kathleen has always had a love for reading; she is an avid collector of children’s books. Her desire to publish a children’s book grew when she found it difficult to fill her classroom library with African American children’s literature that truly spoke to the experiences of her students. When Kathleen’s submissions to publishing companies went unanswered, she decided to pursue independent publishing. Since penning her first book in 2006, Kathleen has founded her own publishing company, Willa’s Tree Studios, LLC, and debuted Summer in the City in March 2013. Despite the many challenges that confronted her as an independent publisher, Kathleen has found success with sharing her story and getting her book into schools, libraries, and the homes of children.
Kathleen has designed and facilitated workshops for teachers and parents on a variety of literacy-related topics. She is an adjunct instructor at Temple University where she teaches undergraduates who are preparing to become teachers. She also teaches developmental literacy skills to incoming freshman at Delaware County Community College.
Kathleen is eager to schedule book signings and readings as well as opportunities to present at conferences and workshops. To book Kathleen for an event contact her via email, or click HERE.
First Snow, Kathleen’s second publication, is set to release Fall 2013.
